Glubran 2 – Tissue Adhesive
Synthetic surgical glue
Glubran 2 is a medical device, Class III, CE marked, for internal and external use.
Glubran 2 is a synthetic, biodegradable cyanoacrylate-based glue, modified by the addition of a monomer (methacryloxysulfolane) synthesized by GEM — the only product of its kind commercially available.
Glubran 2 is ready for use. It combines high adhesive and haemostatic properties, and once polymerised, creates an efficient antiseptic barrier against the most common infective and pathogenic agents encountered during surgery, inhibiting bacterial proliferation for an average of 7 days.
Glubran 2 polymerises quickly on contact with live tissue and moist environments (in 1-2 seconds, complete within 60-90 seconds), forming a thin, elastic film with high tensile strength that ensures strong adhesion to tissue. This film conforms naturally to the tissue it is applied to, remains impermeable to liquids, and is not affected by blood or other organic fluids. It biodegrades naturally in the body between 15 days and 6 months, without interfering with tissue healing.
Glubran 2 is used in open and laparoscopic surgery, and in digestive tract endoscopy. It is also used as an embolising agent in radiology and vascular neuroradiology, as well as a sclerosing agent for varices. Typical applications include:
- General, hepatobiliary and thoracic surgery: sealing anastomoses, sutures, and resection lines/surfaces; treating fistulae; ensuring aerostasis in pulmonary resections
- Hernia and reconstructive surgery: fixing prosthetic meshes and patches, replacing sutures (e.g. tympanoplasty, circumcision, closure of trocar sites, dental surgery)
- Haemostasis: rapid, mechanical control of punctate bleeding on resection surfaces, even in anticoagulated patients or those with coagulopathies
- Digestive endoscopy: sclerosing agent for oesophageal, gastric and duodenal varices
- Interventional radiology and neuroradiology: liquid embolising agent for vascular malformations, AVMs, varicoceles and bleeding vessels
Glubran 2 is available in 0.5 ml and 1 ml formats, supplied 10 sterile single-dose vials per box.
